An Enriched Air Diver (EANx Diver) is a scuba diver who is certified to dive with enriched air nitrox (EANx). EANx is a breathing gas that contains more oxygen and less nitrogen than regular air. This means that EANx divers can stay underwater longer and have shorter surface intervals than divers using regular air.
There are many benefits to diving with EANx, including:
- Longer no-decompression times: EANx divers can stay underwater longer without having to decompress than divers using regular air. This is because EANx has less nitrogen, which is the gas that builds up in your body during a dive and can cause decompression sickness (DCS).
- Shorter surface intervals: EANx divers can have shorter surface intervals between dives than divers using regular air. This is because they have less nitrogen in their bodies after a dive.
- Reduced risk of DCS: EANx divers have a reduced risk of DCS than divers using regular air. This is because they have less nitrogen in their bodies after a dive.
- Increased safety: EANx diving is generally considered to be safer than diving with regular air. This is because EANx divers have more time to react to an emergency and less chance of getting DCS.
EANx diving is a great option for divers who want to stay underwater longer, have shorter surface intervals, and reduce their risk of DCS. It is also a good choice for divers who plan to travel and dive in different parts of the world, as many of the best dive sites are located in areas with strong currents.
To become an Enriched Air Diver, you must be certified as a scuba diver and complete an EANx diving specialty course. The course will teach you about the benefits and risks of EANx diving, how to plan and execute EANx dives safely, and how to use EANx dive tables and computers.
If you’re a certified scuba diver and you’re interested in learning more about EANx diving, then I encourage you to take an EANx diving specialty course. It’s a great way to improve your diving skills and safety.
